Welcome to DiscoveringANTIQUES.com
Discovering ANTIQUES magazine has been a labour of love for over 10 years now. It is home-based in Calgary, published five times a year and circulation for the magazine extends from Saskatchewan to British Columbia. Subscriptions and complimentary copies travel as far east as the Maritime Provinces.
The antique industry took a slump after "9-11" in 2001, and recovery has been slow. There were other factors which have affected the business, such as SARS, BSE, etc., all of which influenced the economy; and therefore, antiques and collectables, an industry which retails primarily a nonessential commodity. As important as a collection is to an individual; adding to it or paying the bills left the individual with only one reasonable option. A thought to consider - although antiques and collectables are generally considered to be luxury items; have you ever considered what other furniture or "home decor" pieces you can purchase, use and enjoy today; AND… will also appreciate, not depreciate? We have become such a "toss away" society that it will be interesting in a hundred years to know what people collect - if there is anything left to collect that hasn’t been thrown away. Collectors have been recycling for a long, long time; it was just never called that!
